The Best Western Oakland Park Inn and the Area of Ft. Lauderdale Beach, FL

Our Favorite Ft. Lauderdale Beach

The Earl Lifshey Park is highly recommended for access to Fort Lauderdale Beach. This mini-park is maintained (extremely well) by the city of Fort Lauderdale, and is one of the area's most private' (least-known) beach access points. This park is located less than 1 mile from the Best Western Oakland Park Inn at 3054 N. Ocean Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

This beach access features excellent landscaping, including paved walkways, and freshwater showers. Other things to like about this park are its paved, metered parking, wheelchair access, lighting, benches and trash receptacles.

From the Inn, which is located on Federal Highway (US-1), the only way to turn is right (south), head in this direction for 2 blocks. The second intersection allows u-turns, make a u-turn. Travel north on Federal Highway for 3 blocks, to the intersection with Oakland Park Boulevard. Make a right (east) at this intersection. Within a few blocks there is a bridge that goes over the intracoastal Waterway. Continue across the bridge and travel 2 blocks to the intersection with Ocean Boulevard (US-A1A). Continue thru this intersection and Oakland Park Boulevard ends at the Earl Lifshey Park. There is a turn-around, and parking is located on the corner.

Getting Around Ft. Lauderdale

The simplest way to get around Fort Lauderdale is by car. If renting, you can save money by renting a car from a location other than the airport. The city is set up on grid system, and is pretty easy to navigate.

Broward County is served by three major Interstates (I-75, I-95, I-595) and some U.S. Highways including U.S. Highway 1, US 27 and US 441. It is also served by Florida's Turnpike and State Highway 869, also known as the Sawgrass Expressway.

The Best Western Oakland Park Inn is centrally located on or near numerous Broward County bus routes. The local bus fare is $1.25 and gives you access to down, the beach or transfers to TRI-RAIL and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. A unique way and affordable way to tour Fort Lauderdale is by catching the SUN Trolley. This fun and colorful trolley car bus service offers numerous routes with stops at Las Olas Boulevard, the famous Fort Lauderdale Beach, Downtown and Government Centers, The Broward Center of Performing Arts, Convention Center, Harbor Shops and the Trial Rail commuter train offering service to Miami and West Palm beach. The fare is only 50 cents and you can catch the Sun Trolley just steps away from the Best Western Oakland Park Inn at the Coral Ridge Mall. Routes and times vary, however, the service runs approximately every 10 – 20 minutes.
